Sign-in and License

Fix sign-in and license problems such as Email or password is incorrect, Device limit reached, Trial already used, License error, Expired, No license and redeem-code errors.

Looper Studio checks your license when you sign in, each time it starts, and every 8 hours while it runs. If something is wrong, you see it in one of two places:

  • The license pill, at the right end of the bottom bar.
  • The sign-in window. When you cannot use the app, the app hides the main window and opens the sign-in window. A red message under the form tells you why.

License pill states in the bottom bar

PillWhat it means
No pillYour license is valid.
Validating...The app is checking your license.
Amber, with a day count, for example Trial - 3 days leftYour trial or plan reaches its end date soon. Audio still plays.
Red, License errorThe app cannot confirm your license. All audio is muted.
Red, Sign in, No license, Expired, Device limit or Trial usedYou cannot use the app now. The sign-in window shows the reason.

Click the pill to open your account at looper.studio/dashboard.

When you fix a problem on the website, return to the app and sign in again. The app then checks your license at once.

The sign-in window opens with no message

You see the sign-in window, but there is no red message. This is normal the first time you open the app, and after you click Log out. Sign in with the same method as before: email and password, or Sign in with Apple.

If the window says Sign in again to check your license., the app could not read its saved copy of your license. Connect to the internet and sign in again.

“Looper Studio needs to go online to check your license. Connect to the internet and sign in.”

The app was offline for too long, so it cannot use its saved copy of your license.

  1. Connect to the internet.
  2. Sign in again with the same method as before.

When the app starts online, it renews an out-of-date license by itself, and you do not need to sign in. You see this message when the app cannot check online at startup.

How long the app works offline

The app must check your license online from time to time:

  • Subscription: at least once every 14 days.
  • Every license type: at least once every 30 days.
  • Trial: the trial ends on its end date, online or offline.

When the time passes, the app checks online the next time you open it. If it is offline, it opens the sign-in window with the message above. If the time passes while the app is open, the pill turns to License error and the audio mutes. Before a show with no internet, open Looper Studio once while you are online.

“Your trial has ended. Buy a license at looper.studio/pricing, then sign in.”

Your free trial reached its end date. Your projects stay on your computer.

  1. Buy a plan at looper.studio/pricing, or click Redeem a code in the sign-in window.
  2. Sign in again.

“This license was set up on another computer. Sign in to use it here.”

The saved license on this computer belongs to a different computer. This can happen when you copy your files to a new computer. When the app starts online, it sets up the license for this computer by itself. You see this message when it cannot.

  1. Connect to the internet.
  2. Sign in again. This computer then uses one of your 3 device slots. If all of them are in use, the app shows Device limit reached. Its section is below.

Email and password sign-in fails

The sign-in window shows the reason in red under the form:

MessageWhat to do
Email or password is incorrect.Check the email address. To set a new password, click Forgot password?. If you created your account with Apple, read the next section.
Confirm your email first. Open the link we sent you, then sign in.Open the confirmation email and click the link. Then sign in again. If you cannot find the email, sign in at looper.studio/login and click Resend the confirmation email.

Sign-in is not available right now. Try again later. The server has a problem. Check status.looper.studio, and try again later.

You created your account with Apple

An account that you created with Sign in with Apple has no password. Email and password sign-in never works for it, and the app shows Email or password is incorrect.

  1. In the sign-in window, click Sign in with Apple.
  2. Finish the Apple sign-in. On macOS it opens in a window. On Windows and Linux it opens in your web browser and then returns you to the app.
  3. If you see Sign-in didn't complete. or Sign-in link is invalid or has expired. Please try signing in again., click Sign in with Apple again.

“Please accept the End User Licence Agreement to continue.”

Select the box I agree to the End User Licence Agreement and the Privacy Policy under the form. Then sign in. The box shows the first time you sign in, and again after the agreement changes.

“You don't have an active license. Visit looper.studio/pricing or redeem a code.”

The pill says No license. Your account has no active plan. This happens when your trial or plan ended earlier, or when the account has only the Cloud Sync add-on.

  1. Check that you signed in with the right account. Open looper.studio/dashboard with the same email and open Billing.
  2. Buy a plan at looper.studio/pricing, or click Redeem a code in the sign-in window.
  3. Sign in again.

“Your license has expired. Renew at looper.studio/pricing.”

The pill says Expired. Your trial or plan reached its end date. Your projects stay on your computer.

  1. Renew or buy a plan at looper.studio/pricing, or click Redeem a code in the sign-in window.
  2. Sign in again.

“Device limit reached. Manage devices at looper.studio/dashboard/devices.”

The pill says Device limit. Your license works on up to 3 computers at a time, and all of them are in use.

  1. Go to looper.studio/dashboard/devices and sign in.
  2. Find a computer that you no longer use. Click Deactivate, then Yes, deactivate.
  3. In the app, sign in again.
  • Log out in the app does not free a slot. Only Deactivate on the website frees it.
  • You can deactivate 10 times in any 30 days. The Devices page shows how many deactivations you have left.
  • If you open the app again on a computer that you deactivated, it uses a slot again.
  • Manage devices in Settings → Account opens the Devices page.

“Trial already used on this machine.”

The pill says Trial used. Each computer gets one free trial, and a different account already started a trial on this computer. Do one of these:

  • Sign in with the account that started the trial on this computer.
  • Buy a plan at looper.studio/pricing, then sign in again.
  • Click Redeem a code in the sign-in window.

“License error” and no sound

The pill says License error. The app cannot confirm your license, so it mutes all audio. The main window stays open.

  1. Check your internet connection.
  2. Save your work. Then quit Looper Studio and open it again while you are online. The app checks your license each time it starts. If it shows the sign-in window, sign in again.
  3. Check status.looper.studio for a service problem.
  4. If the problem stays, contact support. See Crashes and getting help.

“Your computer's date and time look wrong. Correct them, then sign in.”

The app compares your saved license with the date and time on your computer. If the clock is wrong, the app cannot trust the saved license, and it opens the sign-in window with this message.

  1. Turn on automatic date and time:
    • macOS: System Settings → General → Date & Time → Set time and date automatically.
    • Windows: Settings → Time & language → Date & time → Set time automatically.
    • Linux (Ubuntu): Settings → System → Date & Time → Automatic Date & Time.
  2. Connect to the internet and sign in again.

A code does not redeem

To redeem a code in the app, sign in first. Then click Redeem a code, paste the code into LICENSE CODE, and click Redeem. You can also redeem a code at looper.studio/dashboard/redeem.

Linux: the sign-in window returns after you sign in

Looper Studio keeps your sign-in in the system keyring, for example GNOME Keyring or KWallet. It never keeps it in a plain file. If no keyring service runs, or the keyring stays locked, the app cannot keep your sign-in, and the sign-in window returns. It shows no error message.

  1. Make sure that a keyring service runs on your desktop. Ubuntu Desktop runs GNOME Keyring by default.
  2. If your system asks for the keyring password, enter it.
  3. Sign in again.
