Takes & backup

Messed up a loop?
Swap in the backup.

Mark your best take as the backup before the show. If a pass goes wrong on stage, one press of a footswitch or a key swaps it back in real time, and the song plays on.

    Set the backup

    Each clip keeps its last 10 takes. Play them back, pick the best one and press Set backup. New passes never push it out.

  2. On stage

    A pass goes wrong? Swap it live

    Press PANIC, or the footswitch or key you mapped to it, and the loop under the playhead switches to its backup take at once. The transport never stops.

Frequently asked

Which platforms does it run on?

Looper Studio is a native app for macOS, Windows and Linux, with iPad coming soon, and one licence covers all four. The same structured-looping workflow, on whatever you bring to the stage.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every install of the app starts with a 7-day free trial — full access to all features, no credit card required. The subscription also starts with 7 days free when you subscribe here: Polar takes your card at checkout and charges you on day 8. Cancel before then and you pay nothing. There's also a 14-day refund window if you buy and change your mind.

Which plugin formats are supported?

You can host Audio Unit (v2 and v3) and VST3 plugins. There's no VST2 support. Each track runs up to 16 effects (8 before the fader, 8 after) plus 1 instrument, from the 32 built-in effects or your own plugins.

What can I export?

Export to WAV, AIFF, or FLAC — as a full mix, individual stems, or single clips. Looper Studio also sends 24 PPQ MIDI clock to keep outboard gear in time.

Can I control it hands-free?

Yes. Drive transport, Loop Regions, your setlist and Panic from a footswitch or any MIDI controller, so your hands stay on your instrument.

Do I still need my effect pedals?

No. Every track has its own effects — up to 16 plus an instrument, from the 32 built-in effects or your AU and VST3 plugins. You set them up ahead of time, so each part comes in already sounding right. You bring a laptop or iPad, your instrument and an audio interface.

What if I mess up a take live?

Record a backup take of a part before the show. If the live take goes wrong, one stomp on your Panic footswitch swaps in the backup and the song carries on. Every take is kept, so you can choose the best one later.

Can I play a whole set?

Yes. Put your songs in a setlist. At the end of a song, one press takes you to the next one, ready to play.

Can I use backing tracks?

Yes. Build backing tracks in Looper Studio ahead of time, keep them as playback, and loop live on top. You can also record the whole performance.

What hardware do I need?

A Mac on macOS 12 or later, a Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) PC, a Linux computer on Ubuntu 24.04 or later, or an iPad on iPadOS 26 or later — plus an audio interface for your instrument.
